Monrovia The Mighty Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has strongly condemned the recent fire incident at the residence of its Political Leader and former President, His Excellency George Manneh Weah, describing it as a deliberate attack on his life aimed at undermining national peace.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the CDC accused political opponents and certain security actors of repeated intimidation against the former president and his supporters.

The statement recalls previous incidents at Roberts International Airport (RIA), where personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) allegedly attacked CDC partisans during President Weah’s return to the country.

The CDC also cited more recent incidents involving armed police officers at the airport, claiming that several supporters were manhandled, handcuffed, and in some cases jailed.

The party further criticized the Unity Party (UP) for spreading disinformation, including the circulation of a fake AI-generated image purportedly showing the former president’s bedroom. The CDC described these acts as deliberate attempts to mislead the public and tarnish the image of H.E. Weah.

Assuring Liberians that the former president is safe and in good health, the CDC called for a “forensic, international, and independent investigation” into the fire incident, emphasizing the need for a probe free from lies or deception.

“The CDC remains committed to safeguarding the peace, unity, and democracy of Liberia. We caution against reckless actions and urge all actors to respect the sanctity of human life, democratic principles, and the rule of law,” the statement concluded.

The incident has heightened political tensions in Liberia, raising concerns about security for high-profile political figures and the growing influence of misinformation in public discourse.
