Central Bank of Liberia Launches “Clean Note Campaign” to Promote National Pride

By: Gegee Birma

Monrovia The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has officially launched the “Clean Note Campaign”, a nationwide initiative aimed at instilling respect for the Liberian currency and promoting financial pride among citizens.

Under the theme “Our Money, Our Pride,” the CBL has partnered with nine commercial banks, the Liberian Marketing Association, the Liberia Business Association, and community groups, including street vendors and the Motorcyclists Union, to champion the campaign.

The kickoff event drew hundreds of Liberians who joined together in solidarity to advocate for the proper handling of banknotes.

Participants were urged to stop common practices such as squeezing, stapling, writing on, or otherwise mishandling money.

According to the CBL, treating banknotes with care goes beyond financial hygiene — it is also a matter of national pride and identity.

Officials stressed that clean and durable banknotes not only ensure smooth financial transactions but also reflect Liberia’s dignity and unity on the global stage.

Through this initiative, the Central Bank hopes to build a culture where citizens see banknotes as more than just a medium of exchange, but as a symbol of national heritage deserving respect.
