BOMI COUNTY – The Environmental Protection Agency is recommending a full-scale environmental audit of Western Cluster Liberia Limited before the company resumes operations in Bomi County, western Liberia.

The recommendation follows a site visit by the EPA Zone A Team to the company’s Bomi Hills Mine in Tubmanburg as part of the agency’s ongoing nationwide environmental inspection exercise.
According to a statement posted on the EPA’s official Facebook page, the Zone A Team visited Western Cluster on Day Four of the nationwide environmental monitoring exercise.
The EPA said company management informed inspectors that mining operations remain suspended under a care-and-maintenance program while the company reviews its Mineral Development Agreement and advances plans for a jetty, haul road, and concentrator plant.
The agency also raised concerns over the environmental and social impacts of activities being carried out by Kongo Mining Liberia within its concession area.
The EPA cited pollution, land degradation, and possible community resettlement challenges as issues that violate Liberia’s environmental protection laws.
Following a guided tour of the facility, the EPA team observed that no active mining operations were taking place and recommended a comprehensive environmental audit before any future resumption of operations.
