Government Moves to Reclaim Control of Hotel Africa

By Sampson W Weah – sampsonwweah7@gmail.com

MONROVIA The Government of Liberia has announced plans to reclaim full ownership and control of the Hotel Africa premises, including the historic Unity Center, surrounding Golf Course, and residential Villas.

In a public notice issued through the Liberia Land Authority (LLA), current occupants have been given a 90-day deadline to either vacate the premises or regularize their stay through official channels.

The move is part of a broader national initiative to reassert government authority over public properties and enforce proper land tenure across the country.

Kweshie Tetteh, Assistant Director of Public Relations at the LLA, stated that all individuals and businesses currently residing in or operating on the premises must either leave within the 90-day window or provide valid documentation to justify their continued presence.

“Those with legitimate claims are encouraged to contact the Liberia Land Authority to register their concerns,” said Tetteh.

He added that anyone who may have acquired rights—such as deeds, lease agreements, or other supporting documents—must submit them for verification and potential re-documentation.

The directive also applies to those occupying parts of the Villas or Golf Course areas, regardless of how the property was acquired.

As the government moves to restore oversight over the once-iconic tourism destination, authorities are urging all affected parties to cooperate fully and comply with the outlined procedures.

The Liberia Land Authority, located at the intersection of Ashmun and Gurley Streets in Monrovia, serves as the national agency responsible for land governance and administration.
