Held under the theme, “Know Your Bill of Rights and the Importance of the Tax Appeals Process,” the event aimed to strengthen public understanding of Liberia’s tax laws and dispute resolution mechanisms.

During the workshop, participants received in-depth presentations on the mandate and core functions of the Board of Tax Appeals, the procedures involved in the tax appeals process, and the rights and responsibilities of taxpayers.

Particular emphasis was placed on the Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights and the constitutional right to due process as guaranteed under Liberia’s tax laws.

Speaking at the program, BoTA officials emphasized that the workshop was designed to empower taxpayers with accurate information, reduce misunderstandings between tax authorities and taxpayers, and promote voluntary tax compliance through education rather than enforcement.

They noted that an informed taxpayer is better positioned to engage constructively with tax institutions and to seek redress through lawful channels when disputes arise.

The Board expressed appreciation to members of the business community, county stakeholders, and civil society organizations for their active participation, describing their engagement as a clear demonstration of growing public interest in tax education and accountability.

The workshop comes at a critical time as Gbarnga continues to emerge as a fast-growing commercial and economic hub in Liberia.

BoTA officials stressed that as business activities expand in the city, it is essential for taxpayers to fully understand their rights and obligations within the tax system to ensure fairness, transparency, and economic growth.

Participants welcomed the initiative, describing the workshop as timely and informative, and called for similar engagements to be extended to other parts of the country to further strengthen taxpayer awareness and confidence in the tax appeals process.
