BOMI COUNTY – The Liberia Cashew Development Association (LCDA) has launched a three-day financial literacy and business management training for farmers in Bomi County.
The workshop, sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), runs from 15 to 17 April 2026 under the theme: “Empowering local farmers for sustainable financial and business management in the cashew value chain.”

More than 30 smallholder farmers from Bomi and Gbarpolu County are taking part in the training, which is being held in Tubmanburg.
At the opening session, LCDA National Vice President for Programmes, Ambullah Perry, highlighted the importance of financial skills in modern farming.
“The training is intended to provide farmers with comprehensive financial management knowledge, particularly in record-keeping of their resources,” he said.
Mr Perry said the initiative aims to shift farmers from subsistence agriculture to a more business-oriented approach. He encouraged cashew producers to commercialise their activities in order to increase income.
“We want farmers to understand that agriculture is a business, and like any business, it requires proper financial management,” he added.

Participants are expected to gain practical skills in tracking costs, managing resources and making informed decisions about their farming activities. The programme is designed to help farmers operate more profitably and sustainably.
Mr Perry noted that the LCDA is working to improve the livelihoods of cashew farmers across Liberia, with the training forming a key part of that effort.
The initiative aligns with FAO’s broader programme to support agricultural development in Liberia, focusing on sustainable practices and improved food security.
