Unity Party Urged to Stand with Embattled Rep. Kolubah Amid Investigation

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – Former Assistant Foreign Minister Hon. Karishma Pelham-Raad has called on the Unity Party to demonstrate political loyalty and stand in solidarity with Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Hon. Yekeh Y. Kolubah, as he faces an ongoing legislative investigation.

Speaking in reference to Kolubah’s role during the 2023 presidential election, Pelham-Raad recalled his strong support for the Unity Party during the second round of campaigning, noting that he backed the party despite reportedly having “many other options and offers” available to him at the time.

“Loyalty should be rewarded with loyalty,” she stated, stressing that the Unity Party now has a responsibility to reciprocate what she described as Kolubah’s sacrifice during the electoral process. She emphasized that this is the moment for the party to “stand with Yekeh” in light of his current difficulties.

Her remarks come as Representative Kolubah is currently under investigation by the House of Representatives for alleged “Gross Breach of Duty and Violation of Oath of Office,” pursuant to Articles 38 and 76 of the Constitution of Liberia.

As part of the ongoing process, the House Committee on Rules, Order and Administration has granted Kolubah a two-day extension to secure legal representation. The extension replaces an earlier request for five days, which committee members considered excessive within the timeframe of the ongoing Special Session.

The decision was made during a hearing on Monday, with the extension taking effect immediately. Committee Chair Rep. James Kolleh assured that the proceedings would follow due process in accordance with the rules of the House.

He further announced that the next hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

Earlier, Rep. Kolubah had appealed for additional time to engage legal counsel, citing the Fast and Prayer holiday period and the temporary closure of law offices between April 10 and 12, which he said affected his ability to prepare for the originally scheduled hearing on April 13, 2026.

The case continues to draw political attention as lawmakers proceed with the investigation while calls for solidarity and fairness emerge from political actors.
