LEC Issues Notice on Potential Power Disruptions Due to Rainstorms

By: Staff Writer

MONROVIA – As the rainy season approaches, the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has issued an important announcement to inform the public about potential service disruptions that could occur as a result of heavy rainstorms. These disruptions are likely to affect some communities across the country, due to the strain weather conditions place on overhead power lines and other key electrical infrastructure.

LEC explained that the anticipated disruptions are primarily due to the weather-induced stress on the power distribution network, which includes the vulnerability of overhead lines during heavy rainfall and storms. Given the unpredictable nature of the rainy season, it is expected that temporary faults may occur. However, LEC is taking proactive measures to mitigate the impact on its customers.

In a statement, LEC assured the public that the corporation’s technical teams are on high alert and fully mobilized to address any issues that arise. The dedicated teams are prepared to respond swiftly to service interruptions and work diligently to restore power where needed. This commitment to rapid response underscores LEC’s focus on enhancing its operational capability and maintaining a reliable electricity supply throughout the country, despite the challenges posed by the rainy season.

“In addition to addressing weather-related disruptions, LEC is also in the process of executing a strategic relocation of critical electrical assets to accommodate the construction of an overpass road along the ELWA-Boulevard to Congo Town corridor. The project is expected to facilitate the ongoing development of essential infrastructure in the area, but it will also require the temporary relocation and reconfiguration of key components of the transmission and distribution network,” the statement said.

Residents and businesses located in the vicinity of this construction zone are warned to anticipate intermittent power outages as the relocation work progresses. “LEC emphasized that these outages will be temporary and part of the broader effort to improve the electrical infrastructure and service delivery for the region. The public is encouraged to remain patient and understanding during this period of transition.”

To keep customers informed, the LEC Department of Information and Public Affairs will continue to provide timely updates regarding the status of the power supply and the progress of the strategic relocation project.
