Liberia Beekeepers Association Urges Greater Investment in Honey Production

By: Peter Darblo

Bomi County– The Liberia Beekeepers Association has called for increased investment in beekeeping as part of efforts to boost income generation and support the government’s drive to reduce poverty across the country.

Speaking in Bomi County, Mr. Aaron Williams, National Chairman of the Association, said the organization continues to play a vital role in improving the livelihoods of citizens engaged in honey and beeswax production.

According to Mr. Williams, beekeeping remains one of the most profitable yet underutilized agricultural ventures in Liberia. He emphasized that with minimal investment, rural farmers can produce high-quality honey and related products for both local consumption and export, thereby enhancing household income and contributing to national revenue.

He further encouraged local authorities, youth, and women’s groups to venture into beekeeping as a means of promoting self-employment and rural development.

In recent years, the Liberia Beekeepers Association has conducted several capacity-building workshops and awareness campaigns across various counties to promote modern and sustainable beekeeping practices.

Mr. Williams added that the Association remains committed to partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture and international NGOs to expand honey production and empower rural communities across Liberia.
