“I relinquish the presidency to take up a new leadership role as Chairperson and CEO of the Law Reform Commission. This decision followed careful consideration of my duties to the association and to Liberia’s justice system,” Varmah said.
He noted that his resignation was first communicated during the LNBA’s annual convention in December 2025 in Ganta City, where he expressed his intention to accept the national legal reform appointment.
“This step reflects my commitment to institutional integrity and continued devotion to professional standards within the LNBA,” he stated.
Varmah added that stepping down from the bar leadership will allow him to focus on reforming and modernizing Liberia’s legal framework while continuing to support the rule of law and professional legal ethics.
The LNBA elected Varmah as president on November 30, 2024, during its national convention in Ganta City, Nimba County, for a three-year term. He succeeded Sylvester Rennie.
Prior to leading the LNBA, Varmah served as Vice President of the West African Bar Association, a position he was elected to in June 2024.
