CAPITOL HILL – In a significant development within Liberia’s legislative branch, Richard Nagbe Koon has been elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The election took place with 43 lawmakers casting their votes in his favor, securing a strong mandate. Four members of the House were absent during the voting process.

Koon’s election comes in the wake of the resignation of former Speaker Fonati Koffa following months of legal and political battle between his bloc and the majority members of the house.

Following the vote, Richard Nagbe Koon was formally inducted as the new Speaker at the Capitol.

The induction marks a new chapter for the House of Representatives as Koon assumes one of the highest-ranking positions in Liberia’s political structure.

As Speaker, Koon will be responsible for presiding over legislative sessions, guiding the legislative agenda, and representing the House in official capacities.

His leadership is expected to play a critical role in shaping the legislative priorities and national dialogue in the months ahead.

The transition in leadership is being closely watched by both lawmakers and the public, as the House prepares to address pressing national issues under new stewardship.
