GBARPOLU – The Energicity Liberia has submitted a new tariff proposal for its solar mini-grid operations in Gbarpolu County.
The proposal was presented during public hearings hosted by the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission from April 23–24, 2025.
The sessions aimed to foster transparency and gather public input on the proposed pricing model for electricity services in rural communities.
During the hearing, Claude Katta, Chairman of the LERC Board of Commissioners, emphasized that the proposal would not be approved without thorough justification by ENERGICITY and input from affected stakeholders.
He referenced the Electricity Law of 2015 as the guiding legal framework for the decision-making process.
Representing ENERGICITY Liberia, Kumba Kasse-Gborie, Customer Operations Manager, highlighted the company’s work across 10 rural communities in Bopolu and Gbarma Districts.
These include towns such as Bopolu, Farwhenta, Henry’s Town, and Gbarma, where the company operates solar mini grids to power underserved households and institutions.
The new tariff proposal includes a “Pay-as-you-go” pricing model, with a one-time connection fee of 12 US dollars, a monthly service fee of 2 dollars five cents, and a usage rate of 45 US cents per kilowatt-hour.
For clinics, ENERGICITY proposed a subsidized rate of 10 US cents for up to 3 kiloWatts per hour of daily usage, with a 3 US dollars monthly support fee, noting that any energy consumed beyond this limit would be billed at the standard community rate.
