MONROVIA – The Liberian Senate has unanimously confirmed Cornelia W. Kruah as Minister of Youth and Sports following a motion introduced by Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah Varpilah and a decisive roll-call vote by 20 senators.
Her confirmation followed an extensive vetting process conducted by the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, chaired by River Cess County Senator Bill Teah Twehway.
During her appearance before the committee, Kruah presented a detailed policy vision centered on revitalizing youth development initiatives and strengthening the administration of sports nationwide.

Lawmakers subjected the nominee to wide-ranging questions on policy direction, institutional reform, and practical strategies to expand opportunities for young people. Committee members later described her responses as clear, confident, and grounded in experience.
In its report to plenary, the committee commended Kruah’s performance and professional qualifications, concluding that she satisfied all constitutional and statutory requirements for the position.
The report further emphasized that her background in public administration and policy coordination makes her well suited to lead the ministry at a time when youth empowerment and sports development remain key national priorities.
Acting on the committee’s recommendation, Senator Varpilah formally moved that the Senate proceed with confirmation.
The motion was seconded and adopted without objection, paving the way for a roll-call vote in which all 20 senators present voted in favor of the nominee, confirming her without dissent.
Reading from the committee’s report, Senate Secretary Nanborlor Singbeh told the chamber:
“After carefully reviewing the nominee’s presentation at the confirmation hearing and her demonstrated expertise and depth of knowledge, the committee is satisfied that she possesses the competence, suitability, and qualifications required for the position of Minister of Youth and Sports and therefore recommends her confirmation by plenary.”
Following the vote, the Senate mandated its Secretary to formally communicate the decision to the Executive for final appointment.
Part of Presidential Restructuring
Kruah’s nomination forms part of a broader restructuring of government being undertaken by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai as he continues efforts to strengthen performance and service delivery across public institutions.
Prior to her elevation, Kruah served as Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, where she played a key role in internal management and executive coordination.
Her appointment follows the reassignment of former Youth and Sports Minister Jeror Cole Bangalu to head the Liberia Refugees Repatriation and Resettlement Commission.
The move is widely viewed as part of the Boakai administration’s broader effort to inject fresh leadership into key institutions since assuming office in 2024.
With confirmation secured, Kruah is expected to immediately assume her duties, steering policies aimed at advancing youth empowerment, promoting sports development, and strengthening institutional reforms within the ministry.
