Henry Costa Distances Himself from CDC, Pledges Constructive National Engagement

By: Staff Writer

MONROVIA – Popular Liberian radio talk show host and political commentator Henry Costa has publicly distanced himself from the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), criticizing the party’s performance both in opposition and in government.

Speaking recently, Costa described the CDC, led by former President George Weah, as “unsophisticated in opposition and government,” suggesting a lack of strategic depth and maturity in how the party has handled its roles in Liberian politics.

Costa, who was once seen as a vocal supporter of the CDC during the 2023 general elections, confirmed that he is no longer affiliated with the party.

According to him, CDC officials had encouraged him to remain aligned with them and to launch vocal attacks against the current administration of President Joseph Boakai.

However, he said he rejected those requests, making it clear that he would not be used to propagate political agendas.

“I will not do it,” Costa said firmly. “I am no longer opposition. I support the government, but I will not do propaganda for the government either.”

While pledging his support for the Boakai administration, Costa was quick to clarify that his support does not mean blind loyalty.

He emphasized that he will not openly criticize the government but will continue to engage on national issues when necessary.

This latest development marks a significant shift in Costa’s political posture, as he moves from being a fierce critic of previous administrations to adopting what appears to be a more measured, nationally focused stance.

“I will speak to national issues as times demand,” Costa stated, signaling his intention to remain a relevant voice in Liberia’s political discourse while maintaining a degree of independence from partisan politics.

Costa’s comments come amid a period of political recalibration in Liberia, as the Boakai administration works to establish its agenda and navigate post-election dynamics with both supporters and critics watching closely.
