Senator Snowe Denounces “Malicious” Allegations of Plotting Against Government

MONROVA — Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe of Bomi County has issued a firm rebuttal to allegations reportedly published by the Ministry of Information, accusing him of leveraging his connections within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to destabilize the administration of President Joseph Boakai.

In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, Senator Snowe described the claims as “unfortunate and deeply troubling,” and said they were falsely attributed to him with the apparent intent to damage his reputation and sow political discord.

“I have just come across an unfortunate and deeply troubling statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Information, purportedly attributing to me inflammatory and irresponsible remarks allegedly intended to undermine and destabilize the Government of Liberia,” Snowe wrote.

The government said on Saturday May 24, 2025 that in a troubling declaration, Senator Snowe stated his intention to “do everything possible including using his connections in ECOWAS to make the Boakai-led government fail, even if it means discouraging foreign direct investment and making Liberia ungovernable and unstable until he becomes President.”

The Government of Liberia then reminded all officials, including Senator Snowe, that no citizen is permitted to undermine the nation or its government by exploiting regional or international institutions for personal political gain or destabilization.

But Senator Snowe said while taking steps to verify the authenticity of the statement, he categorically rejects the accusations, labeling them as false, unfounded, and malicious.

He emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability, pledging to call for a full investigation if the publication is confirmed to be genuine.

“Should the statement be confirmed as authentic, I will immediately call for a full, independent, and transparent investigation into these malicious accusations against my person,” he said.

The senator, who is a senior ECOWAS parliamentarian and maintains close ties within the regional bloc, warned against the misuse of public platforms to spread misinformation that could inflame political tensions.

Snowe’s response comes amid a tense political atmosphere as the Boakai administration navigates its second year in office.

As of press time, the Ministry of Information had not issued a follow-up clarification or comment on the senator’s statement.
