IGP Coleman Warns: Police Will Defend Themselves Against Threats

By: Staff Writer

MONROVIA – Inspector General of Police Gregory Coleman has stated that members of the Liberia National Police (LNP) will defend themselves fully if they come under attack.

This warning comes amid ongoing investigations involving high-profile officials allegedly linked to the recent Capitol fire. In recent days, key opposition figures have reportedly begun sharing the personal contact information and home addresses of senior police officers on social media—actions seen by the LNP as threats and intimidation.

IGP Coleman made it clear in a State Radio interview on Monday that the police are aware of the intent behind these postings and are taking them seriously.

“We are aware of their intent, and we do not take it lightly,” Coleman said. “I want to warn those even dreaming of making an attempt on officers or their families—not to try it. The first law of nature is self-preservation, and we will defend ourselves.”

He added: “If you send a message threatening to attack and kill us and our families, do you think we’ll take it lightly? Try it—and we will defend ourselves with everything we have.”

Coleman further stated that the LNP is pursuing legal avenues to address these threats, but officers are also instructed not to hesitate in protecting themselves if attacked.

“Officers are instructed to defend themselves to the best of their ability,” he said.

Among those accused of sharing senior officers’ contact information is Jefferson Koijee, the immediate past Mayor of Monrovia.
