CAPITOL HILL – The House of Representatives has passed a financing agreement for an US$18 million concessional credit from the International Development Association (IDA) to support the Second Additional Financing of the Ganta–Zwedru Road Asset Management Project.

The decision followed the adoption of a report by the Joint Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning and Public Works and Road Development.
The committee recommended the expedited ratification of the agreement, citing its national importance and the approaching deadline for the financing to become effective.
According to the committee’s report, the additional financing will support the upgrading of the Ganta–Saclepea and Saclepea–Zwedru road corridors.
The funding will also cover resettlement activities, road safety interventions, and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening Liberia’s road infrastructure management system.
Following deliberations on the report, Representative Gizzie K. Kollince of Lofa County Electoral District #4 moved that the House adopt the Joint Committee’s recommendations and approve the Financing Agreement. The motion was seconded and subsequently carried by the Plenary.
Following its passage, the House directed that the Financing Agreement be transmitted to the Liberian Senate for concurrence, in keeping with the constitutional process governing international financing agreements.
The Ganta–Zwedru Road Asset Management Project forms part of the Government of Liberia’s broader efforts to improve road connectivity across the country.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the management of the nation’s road infrastructure while expanding access to economic opportunities and essential public services for communities along the Ganta–Zwedru corridor.
The financing agreement is currently awaiting concurrence from the Senate before it can be sent to the office of the President for signature.
