Buchanan – The 18th Commencement Speaker of Hope Kindergarten, Elementary, and Junior High School, Ms. Vera P. Kweh, has called on graduates to stay focused, be consistent, and pursue their academic goals with determination and resilience.
Speaking to 73 graduates during the weekend ceremony held on the school grounds in Tarr Bar Community, Buchanan, Ms. Kweh—a proud alumna of the institution—encouraged the students to see graduation not just as an end, but as the beginning of a new chapter filled with possibilities and responsibilities.
“Graduation is not only a celebration of your accomplishments, but a reflection of your journey—a journey that has already made meaningful contributions to your families and society,” she said. “It is a stepping stone for greater change.”
Reflecting on the students’ academic path from kindergarten to junior high, Ms. Kweh reminded them of how far they have come—from learning the alphabet and making friends, to discovering subjects like math, science, and history.
“Each subject opens a door to new discoveries. Some of you may find joy in complex math problems, others may thrive in the arts. But along this path, you will face challenges,” she warned, adding that discipline, focus, and resilience are essential tools for overcoming them.
Ms. Kweh stressed the importance of developing a growth mindset, noting that how students respond to setbacks can shape their entire educational and personal journey.
“Mistakes do not define you—they are stepping stones to success. Ask for help when you need it. Never give up, because many lives depend on the success of your sacrifice.”
She urged the graduates to embrace opportunities outside the classroom and to prepare for the life lessons that lie ahead, including both positive and negative experiences. Reflecting on her own journey, Ms. Kweh inspired the students to set clear goals and strive to create a positive impact in society.
“You are the beacon of hope and aspirations. Be disciplined, be consistent, and seek knowledge that builds bonds beyond boundaries,” she stated.
In a powerful closing appeal, Ms. Kweh called on parents and alumni to work hand-in-hand with the school’s administration to empower students and ensure the continuation of quality education.
“Let us keep the school’s dream alive. Alumni must step up and be ambassadors of change, helping to shift the narrative for a better future.”
The 18th graduation ceremony was described as a moment of pride and inspiration, highlighting not only academic achievements but also the promise of future leaders being nurtured at Hope School.
