Barclayville Businessman Applauds Boakai Administration for Road Development

By: James Suah

Barclayville, Liberia A prominent resident and businessman in Barclayville City, Alex G.B. Dennis, has praised the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for its efforts in road construction and maintenance across southeastern Liberia.

Dennis noted that the improved road infrastructure is significantly boosting commercial activity in the region, even during the challenging rainy season. Speaking with a correspondent at the Barclayville General Market, he emphasized the positive contrast with past administrations.

“Unlike previous governments, where road conditions were largely ignored, the current infrastructure is holding up well. This is crucial for the movement of goods and essential services,” Dennis stated. “The roads remain in good shape, which is vital for increasing the availability of goods in the region.”

Despite his success in business, Dennis is widely respected for his candid commentary on local and national issues. He explained that the ongoing road development projects have not only eased the transportation of goods but also led to noticeable changes in pricing trends.

“The road pavement initiatives across Liberia have made it much easier to transport goods,” he said. “However, we’re also seeing rising commodity prices.”

Reflecting on previous years, Dennis recalled how poor road conditions severely hampered the transportation of people and goods, driving up operational and living costs. “The roads were so deplorable that they made it difficult for businesses to survive and for citizens to access essential services,” he asserted.

Now, with significant improvements, transportation has become more efficient, contributing to a spike in market activity. Dennis cited that the cost of travel from Barclayville to Pleebo currently stands at around LD$1,500, illustrating both improved access and ongoing cost concerns.

“While business opportunities are expanding and there’s greater consumer engagement, prices remain volatile,” he explained.

Despite these concerns, Dennis expressed optimism about Liberia’s economic outlook, pointing to a growing entrepreneurial spirit among Liberians. He believes this trend could lead to greater market competition and, eventually, more stable and affordable pricing.

He concluded by urging national unity and a collective focus on development. “It’s time for all of us to come together for the betterment of our country,” Dennis said.
