NPA, LWSC Sign MoU to Restore Water Supply at Monrovia Port

By Sampson W. Weahsampsonwweah7@gmail.com

Monrovia The National Port Authority (NPA) and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to connect the NPA to the national water supply system.

The signing ceremony took place today at the NPA headquarters on Bushrod Island.

NPA Managing Director Sekou A.M. Dukuly underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration, noting that integration into the national water grid will reduce reliance on boreholes and enhance service delivery to vessels—potentially boosting revenue.

Hon. Dukuly stressed that restoring the LWSC water supply to the Port is long overdue after years of inactivity.

He described water as essential to human health and survival, adding that this development will bring much-needed relief to ships and the broader port community.

He also addressed the issue of unpaid debts owed by various government agencies to the NPA, urging them to settle their obligations in the interest of transparency and accountability.

In response, LWSC Managing Director Hon. Mohammed Ali reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to providing clean water to all government institutions.

He noted that the nearby Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC) is already connected to piped water and announced plans to expand this service nationwide.

MD Ali emphasized that access to clean water in public institutions will help foster healthier, more productive environments for both staff and port users.

The event was attended by staff and officials of the National Port Authority.
