WAEC Liberia Dismisses False Reports on 2025 Exam Results Release

By: Sampson W Weah – sampsonwweah7@gmail.com

MONROVIA The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Liberia, Mr. Dale Gbotoe, has firmly denied widespread social media rumors claiming that the 2025 WAEC results will be released this Wednesday.

He described the reports as “false and misleading,” urging the public to rely solely on official information.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Mr. Gbotoe clarified that the release of national examination results follows a formal procedure.

According to him, final results must first be submitted to the Ministry of Education, which then forwards them to the Office of the President before any public disclosure.

“We cannot release results based on social media speculation,” he stated. “The official release only happens after we’ve briefed both the Ministry of Education and the President’s office.”

Mr. Gbotoe also noted that WAEC is working with the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) to determine the official release date.

Depending on MICAT’s schedule, the results may be announced on either August 12 or August 14, with a final decision expected soon.

This year, more than 180,000 students took the national exams across Liberia. Of those, the government covered exam fees for approximately 53,000 senior high school candidates and 23,000 elementary students as part of efforts to expand access to education.

Reaffirming WAEC’s commitment to transparency and accuracy, Mr. Gbotoe cautioned the public against trusting unofficial sources and stressed the importance of waiting for verified announcements.

“We ask everyone to remain patient and trust only official channels for updates,” he said.
