London, UK – Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Nimal Senadheera, on Wednesday August 13, 2025, held a high-level talk with Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, Ambassador Robert Wilmot Kpadeh.

The meeting, held at noon at the offices of the Liberia Permanent Mission on Southwark Bridge in London, focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration between the two maritime nations.

Discussions centered on addressing critical and emerging challenges in the global shipping industry, with particular emphasis on maritime security, safety, and the uninterrupted flow of international trade.

The two delegations expressed mutual commitment to fostering stronger partnerships in pursuit of a resilient and sustainable global maritime sector. Both nations pledged to work closely at the IMO for the collective good of international shipping and in alignment with their respective national interests.

Ambassador Senadheera, recently appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner and Permanent Representative to the IMO, is expected to formally present his Letter of Credence to IMO Secretary-General H.E. Arsenio Dominguez in the coming days.

During the meeting, he sought the support of Mr. Kpadeh, who has served at the IMO for nearly two years and is widely respected for his leadership and effective representation of Liberia.

Welcoming his Sri Lankan counterpart, Mr. Kpadeh reiterated the importance of unity among IMO member states in addressing the evolving needs of the maritime industry. “In the spirit of cooperation, collaboration, and a united global maritime sector, all member states must work together in championing the cause of international shipping for the good of the world,” he said.

He further emphasized, “The world is doomed without maritime. It is significantly compelling for all member states to hold together for the protection and sustainability of the sector for the good of humanity.

Liberia, as a global leader in the enterprise of international shipping, remains profoundly committed in this respect.”

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a photo session involving both delegations, symbolizing a renewed commitment to maritime diplomacy and global cooperation.
