Monrovia — The Administration of the University of Liberia (UL) has strongly condemned an alleged armed robbery incident involving one of its employees, Mr. Fobay E. Johnson, who serves as an administrative assistant at the UL College of Health Sciences.
In an official statement, the University expressed deep concern over the allegations, describing the reported actions as a “gross violation and affront to the values and policies expected of its employees.” Mr. Johnson has been immediately suspended without pay and benefits, pending the outcome of ongoing criminal proceedings.
According to police in Monrovia, Mr. Johnson has been charged with multiple offenses, including armed robbery, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession and sale of physical objects for lethal use.
The charges stem from a disturbing incident in which Johnson allegedly stormed a private banking office at Ecobank, wielding what appeared to be a shotgun. Police video footage reportedly shows him pointing the weapon at a woman while attempting to duct tape her mouth.
The University emphasized its zero-tolerance policy on all forms of violence and reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of its institution.
“The UL Administration strongly frowns on this action and considers it a gross violation,” the statement reads. “We caution all faculty, staff, and students to guide against any or all forms of unlawful acts that could cause violent harm to others and jeopardize the image of the university.”
While the criminal proceedings are ongoing, the University noted that further disciplinary action would be taken in line with its Human Resource Manual and institutional policies, depending on the outcome of the case.
In closing, the UL Administration reassured the public of its continued dedication to the mission and vision of the University of Liberia and its commitment to ethical standards and professional conduct among its staff and students.
