LPRC Donates Food, Solar Panels, and Mattresses to Support At-Risk Youths

By: Perry B. Zordyu

Monrovia — The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) has donated food and non-food items to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for delivery to the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), in support of at-risk youths currently housed at the holding center.

The donation included 10 solar panels, more than 150 mattresses, six bags of used clothing, and 90 bags of 25-kg rice.

Presenting the items, Jacob Smith, LPRC’s Deputy Managing Director for Administration, said the gesture reflects government’s commitment to restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable young people.

He lauded the collaborative efforts of the Ministries of Youth and Sports, Health, Gender, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Liberia National Police in tackling the national challenge of at-risk youth.

“At-risk youth need more attention. LPRC has started the process, and we are calling on other government agencies to do the same,” Smith urged.

Receiving the donation, Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu expressed gratitude, describing the contribution as “restoring dignity for the less fortunate.”

He emphasized that such support helps transform vulnerable young people into productive members of society.

Minister Bangalu also appealed to other ministries and agencies to join this national endeavor. “This is not only about charity; it is about building the future of our country,” he said.

The donation is expected to ease conditions at the LRRRC holding center and boost ongoing government interventions for at-risk youths across Liberia.
