Washington, D.C. — President Joseph Boakai, has called on Liberians in the diaspora to step beyond the role of supporters and embrace their place as full partners in rebuilding the nation.

Delivering the keynote address at the first-ever Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference, held under the theme “Building the Future Together: Reconciliation, National Healing, Growth, and Prosperity,” President Boakai said the gathering marked a historic step in redefining Liberia’s relationship with its global community.

“You will not be treated as observers, but as full stakeholders in Liberia’s future,” the President declared, drawing applause from an audience of Liberians from across the world.

Reflecting on the country’s 178-year journey, he acknowledged Liberia’s ideals of freedom and equality, while also confronting a legacy of exclusion and inequality. “For too long, we have prioritized building the state over building the nation,” he said, stressing the need for inclusiveness in the national renewal process.

Outlining his vision, “Renewing Liberia Together: Building a Future of Opportunity for All,” President Boakai highlighted reforms in governance, economic transformation, and social reconciliation as the pillars of his administration.

He called for accountability and service to all citizens, regardless of status or background.

Turning to the diaspora’s role, the President praised their contributions through remittances, which he said have sustained countless families. “Now that you have given fish, teach us to fish,” he urged, challenging Liberians abroad to bring home their expertise, innovation, and resources.

He further appealed for strengthened U.S.-Liberia ties, noting that Liberia must prove itself a responsible steward of its resources to attract partnerships and investments.

“Our country is at a crossroads,” he concluded. “Together, we can build a functional and fair society for future generations.”

The conference, which drew Liberians from multiple continents, set a hopeful tone for deeper collaboration between the homeland and its global community.
