The agreement, signed in Monrovia on Friday, underscores the deepening partnership between the two nations and China’s ongoing commitment to supporting Liberia’s development priorities.
The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saw Minister of Foreign Affairs Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti representing the Liberian government, while Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu signed on behalf of the People’s Republic of China.
The grant, provided as non-reimbursable assistance, will fund critical development initiatives, including public infrastructure upgrades, healthcare improvements, educational support, and rural connectivity projects.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nyanti described the agreement as a strong affirmation of the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Liberia and China. She emphasized that the partnership is founded on mutual respect, non-interference, and shared development goals.
“This grant is not merely a financial contribution; it is a vote of confidence in Liberia’s development trajectory,” Minister Nyanti said. “We are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of these projects, making sure that every dollar translates into tangible benefits for our people.”
Ambassador Yin Chengwu reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Liberia and other developing nations through sustainable development initiatives. “China remains committed to supporting developing countries, including Liberia, in their pursuit of sustainable development and poverty reduction,” he said.
“This agreement reflects our shared belief in collective progress and cooperation without political strings attached.”
The new agreement builds on a decade of robust bilateral cooperation, during which China has supported Liberia with numerous infrastructure and humanitarian projects, including road rehabilitation, construction of government buildings, and emergency public health aid.
Officials from both nations expressed optimism that the grant will accelerate Liberia’s development agenda, enhance service delivery, and improve living standards for citizens across the country, marking another milestone in the strategic partnership between Monrovia and Beijing.
