Liberia Police Charge Husband in Death of South African Woman

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged Samuel Jackson in connection with the death of his wife, South African national Ntombeekehyeseh Innocentia Jackson, widely known as “Toni.”

Police say the charges follow an investigation launched immediately after the incident was reported.

The probe, led by the Crime Against Persons Unit, was conducted in collaboration with forensic experts, medical authorities and the Montserrado County Coroner.

According to the LNP, preliminary findings point to a pattern of alleged domestic abuse during the couple’s marriage.

Investigators say this is based on witness testimonies, photographic evidence and documented communications gathered during the inquiry.

The suspect, Samuel Jackson, is said to have been the last person in contact with the victim inside a secured residence. Police say he later reported discovering her lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

Medical and forensic examinations revealed multiple injuries, including trauma to the forehead, chest and back of the head, accompanied by significant bleeding.

Investigators also observed marks on the victim’s upper limbs, which they say may be consistent with restraint or defensive actions.

Police believe the injuries may have resulted from a blunt force impact to the chest, causing the victim to fall backwards and sustain fatal head injuries.

The investigation further raised concerns of alleged negligence. Authorities say the victim had a known seizure-related medical condition, yet the suspect is accused of administering stimulants and leaving her unattended in a locked environment — actions investigators say posed a foreseeable risk to her safety.

Officers also cited delays in notifying authorities and indications that the scene may have been tampered with before police arrived.

Based on these findings, the LNP has charged Mr Jackson with manslaughter, negligent homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The case has been forwarded to court in line with Liberia’s Revised Penal Code.

Police say a full autopsy report is still pending, while toxicology results are expected within two weeks to further guide the investigation.

The LNP stressed that the charges remain allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to proceed without interference.
