The delegation, led by Innolata Aninyangarar, welcomed the recent reconciliation among factions within the Liberia Labour Congress (LLC), describing the renewed unity as a critical step toward effective collaboration within the tripartite structure.

“We are pleased to see the unity and cooperation among the parties within the LLC,” Aninyangarar said. “This is a significant step toward advancing inclusive and sustainable labour initiatives in Liberia. Social dialogue remains essential for promoting decent work and improving the lives of workers and their families.”

The ILO team is in the country to introduce a new ILO-supported project and deepen engagement with key stakeholders, including workers’ organizations, employers, government representatives, and development partners.

According to Aninyangarar, the ILO is also supporting Liberia in developing a roadmap for the implementation of the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP). “This programme will strengthen social dialogue, improve employment outcomes, and guide the development of a comprehensive national employment policy,” she noted.

The DWCP, a four- to six-year strategic framework, will prioritize technical and vocational education and training (TVET), employment promotion, enhanced social dialogue, and the inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Liberia’s Labour Minister, Cooper W. Kruah Sr., welcomed the delegation and highlighted the Ministry’s role in facilitating reconciliation among previously divided factions within the LLC.

“We are pleased to work with the ILO to promote decent work and social dialogue in Liberia,” Minister Kruah said. “This partnership will help improve the lives of workers and their families while supporting sustainable economic growth and development.”

The Minister also reaffirmed Liberia’s readiness to participate in the upcoming International Labour Conference in Geneva next month, noting the importance of advancing the country’s interests on the global stage.

He further emphasized the need to safeguard workers’ rights across both public and private sectors. “We must ensure that workers’ rights are protected and promoted in all sectors,” he said, citing the rights to unionize, collective bargaining, and safe and healthy working conditions.

The ILO’s continued support is expected to help Liberia strengthen its national employment framework and deliver improved job outcomes for its citizens.
