LIBERIA – Liberia has received a significant diplomatic boost on the occasion of its 179th Independence Day, with more than 35 world leaders and international organizations extending congratulatory messages that underscore the country’s growing standing in regional and global affairs.

The messages, received by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. during the national Independence Day celebrations in Buchanan, reflect continued international recognition of Liberia’s democratic credentials, peaceful governance, and expanding diplomatic relationships.
The broad show of support from influential global leaders is seen as a reaffirmation of Liberia’s place within the international community and a signal of confidence in the country’s efforts to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Analysts say such recognition strengthens Liberia’s diplomatic profile and could further enhance cooperation with international partners in areas including investment, infrastructure, governance, education, and economic development.
The congratulatory messages were conveyed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during celebrations held under the theme, “Strengthening National Identity Through Liberian-Led Historical Leadership.”
Presenting the messages to President Boakai, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti said the overwhelming expressions of goodwill demonstrate the strong bilateral and multilateral relationships Liberia continues to maintain with countries and international institutions around the world.
Among the prominent leaders sending Independence Day greetings were United States President Donald J. Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, King Charles III of the United Kingdom, French President Emmanuel Macron, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, India’s President Droupadi Murmu, Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, and Republic of Korea President Lee Jae-myung.
Other distinguished leaders who conveyed messages included King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, President Maia Sandu of Moldova, President Joseph Aoun of Lebanon, President Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia, President Christine Kangaloo of Trinidad and Tobago, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez of Cuba, President Michael D. Higgins of Ireland, President Mamadi Doumbouya of Guinea, President Azali Assoumani of the Union of the Comoros, President Paul Biya of Cameroon, President Andrzej Duda of Poland, and Pope Leo XIV of the Holy See.
Congratulatory messages also came from Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada, Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, and Speaker Hyacinth Alia of the Nevis Island Legislature, among several other international partners.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the messages recognized Liberia’s long-standing democratic tradition and acknowledged President Boakai’s leadership in promoting peace, stability, and international cooperation.
The Government of Liberia expressed appreciation to all the leaders and international partners whose goodwill messages reaffirm the enduring friendships and diplomatic ties Liberia continues to value as it advances its national development agenda and deepens engagement with the international community.
The large number of congratulatory messages from heads of state, monarchs, senior government officials, and international organizations highlights Liberia’s expanding diplomatic engagement and reflects continued global interest in supporting the country’s democratic governance and development aspirations as it approaches nearly two centuries of independence.
