MOROVIA – The Liberian Government says the situation along the Liberia-Guinea border at the Sorlumba Port of Entry in Foya, Lofa County, is now peaceful, calm and stable following high-level engagement between Guinean authorities and Liberia’s joint security.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah said the engagement was held at the buffer zone between a high-level Guinean government delegation and Liberia’s joint security as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions along the border.
According to Minister Piah, the meeting emphasized the longstanding relationship between Liberia and Guinea and the need for both countries to prevent security personnel from either side from engaging in confrontation.
“In an effort to quell the tension at the Liberia-Guinea border, a meeting was held at the buffer zone between a high-level Guinean government delegation and the Liberian joint security,” Piah said.
He said discussions at the meeting reaffirmed that Liberia and Guinea are neighboring countries with longstanding relations and should remain united, making confrontation between security personnel from either side unnecessary.
“At the meeting, it was raised that Liberia and Guinea are neighboring countries, with long-standing relations and should remain united. Hence, there was no need for security personnel from either side to engage in confrontation,” the Information Minister stated.
Minister Piah said both sides agreed to remain calm and exercise restraint while efforts continue toward finding a peaceful resolution to the issue.
“It has been agreed that the parties should remain calm, exercise restraint while we all try to work towards peaceful resolution,” he said.
The Information Minister further disclosed that the situation is being closely monitored by Liberia’s National Security Council, while the government is pursuing appropriate diplomatic channels to address the matter.

He assured the public that the situation at the Sorlumba border is currently under control, stressing that conditions at the port of entry are peaceful, calm and stable.
“Presently, the situation at the Sorlumba border is peaceful, calm and stable,” he added.
The government’s latest update follows tensions reported along the Liberia-Guinea border, with authorities on both sides engaging to prevent further escalation and preserve the longstanding relations between the two neighboring countries.
