ANC Criticizes Unity Party-Led Government for Prioritizing Party Infrastructure Over National Hardships

MONROVIA – The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has sharply criticized the Unity Party–led government for what it calls a misplaced set of priorities, accusing the administration of focusing on acquiring and expanding its party headquarters while everyday Liberians battle worsening economic and social conditions.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the ANC expressed “profound disappointment” over the government’s continued failure to address pressing bread-and-butter issues such as soaring commodity prices, high unemployment, deteriorating healthcare, poor infrastructure, and a stagnant economy.

According to the ANC, while citizens struggle to afford basic necessities, the Unity Party government has instead “channeled time, resources, and political energy into securing political real estate,” a move the opposition party says highlights an administration increasingly detached from the plight of its people.

The ANC further accused government officials of engaging in “unchecked allowances, unnecessary overseas trips, inflated contracts, and opaque financial dealings,” alleging that these practices enrich officials while leaving the population without meaningful relief from economic hardship.

“This is not governance—it is self-serving politics at the expense of the ordinary people,” the statement said, noting that Liberians voted for leadership that would alleviate suffering, not prioritize partisan gains.

The party also pointed to deteriorating basic services, citing water shortages linked to the dry season and electricity rationing by the Liberia Electricity Corporation due to low power supply.

The ANC called on the government to immediately redirect its focus toward tackling poverty, food insecurity, joblessness, and the collapse of essential services. “Liberia needs investment in its people—not in political structures designed to entrench a ruling party,” the statement added.

“The Liberian people deserve better. They deserve a government that works for them,” the release concluded, reaffirming the ANC’s commitment to advocating on behalf of citizens.
