Bong County Suspends Driver for Misuse of Government Vehicle

By: Kongoi Gborkorquellie

Gbarnga, Bong County — The Bong County Administration has suspended for one month the driver assigned to the County Finance Officer, Silas Tokpa, following allegations of misconduct involving the misuse of an official vehicle.

At a press conference on Wednesday, County Administrative Officer Sam Elliott confirmed that the driver, identified as Youjay, was seen misusing the Finance Officer’s assigned vehicle on October 6, 2025.

According to Elliott, Youjay had been sent to service the vehicle in Monrovia but was later spotted parked among commercial cars at the Red Light parking area.

A photo of the vehicle, showing its trunk open and bags being loaded, soon circulated on social media.

“Even if he was helping someone, that’s a government-assigned car,” Elliott said. “Once it’s serviced, it should be returned directly and reported to the county.”

An internal investigation was conducted, during which Youjay denied using the vehicle for commercial purposes. However, the administration concluded that his conduct was inappropriate and unprofessional.

As a result, he has been suspended from October 7 to November 7, 2025, and is barred from entering the Gbarnga Administrative Building, driving the vehicle, or receiving salary or benefits during the suspension period.

“This serves as a warning to all our drivers,” Elliott emphasized. “Any misuse of government property will not be tolerated.”

The county’s Human Resource Department has been instructed to enforce the suspension and ensure compliance.

The administration said the decision is intended to set an example and prevent future misconduct by government-assigned drivers.
