Gbarnga, Bong County – Bong County Technical College (BCTC) is set to confer undergraduate degrees on 123 students during its fourth commencement convocation, scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025.

According to graduation data released by the Office of the Dean of Admissions, Records, and Registration, headed by Mr. Ebee Kollie, the graduating class represents six academic departments: Health Sciences, Agriculture Technology, Education, Information Technology/Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mining Engineering.

The Department of Health Sciences will graduate 40 students—18 females and 22 males. The Department of Agriculture Technology will also confer degrees on 40 students, including 21 females and 19 males. The Education Department, covering both primary and secondary education, will present 21 graduates, comprising 3 females and 18 males.

The Information Technology/Computer Engineering Department will graduate 7 students—2 females and 5 males. Meanwhile, the Engineering Department will confer degrees on 15 students: 7 in Mining Engineering (all male) and 8 in Civil Engineering (1 female and 7 males).

Appearing recently as a guest on a major radio simulcast in Gbarnga, Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, President of Bong County Technical College, announced that the commencement speaker will be His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia.

Dr. Taikerweyah highlighted the significance of President Boakai’s participation, stating that it reflects national recognition of the college’s progress and its growing role in Liberia’s higher education landscape. He acknowledged that BCTC had previously struggled to gain public attention, particularly following a temporary closure that spanned three academic semesters in early 2023.

“Through teamwork and renewed energy, we extended an invitation to President Boakai to serve as this year’s convocation speaker, marking a new chapter for the institution,” Dr. Taikerweyah said.

He also recognized the contributions of former college presidents—Dr. John Flomo, Dr. Charles Mulbah, and Dr. Roland Massaquoi—whose leadership, along with the dedication of past and current staff, laid the foundation for the institution’s resilience and growth.

The graduation ceremony will be held at the Gbarnga Administration Building and is expected to attract high-profile government officials, parents, guardians, students, alumni, and citizens from across Liberia.

As the only public institution of higher learning in Bong County, Dr. Taikerweyah emphasized BCTC’s commitment to demonstrating its academic excellence and relevance on both a national and global scale.

Established in 2010, Bong County Technical College was created in response to Liberia’s growing demand for skilled professionals.

Today, the college offers undergraduate degree programs in Nursing, Agriculture Technology, Civil and Mining Engineering, Information Technology, and Education.
