MONROVIA – Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader Alexander Cummings has urged Liberians to pray for President Joseph Boakai and wish his administration success, saying the country’s progress should take precedence over political differences.

Cummings said the success of the Boakai administration would translate into reduced suffering for ordinary Liberians, stressing that political leaders should not wish the government failure simply for political advantage.

“If he is successful, that means the suffering is going down. And we want the suffering of our people to be less. So nobody should wish anybody ill, or we shouldn’t wish the current administration anything but success.”

He called on Liberians to support the country while holding the government accountable, arguing that constructive criticism should be accompanied by practical solutions.

“We can and should hold the government accountable. But we should also offer solutions. And if you notice, I almost always, when I criticize something, I offer an alternative. I offer a solution.”

Cummings also reflected on the collapse of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), acknowledging that lessons should be drawn from the political grouping’s past experiences. However, he said the mistakes of the CPP should not prevent political leaders from working together again in the national interest.

“The mistakes of the CPP should not stop us from working together. And so we will just be smarter, wiser about how we do it. But we need to work together as a country, as a people.”

The ANC leader said political leaders have a responsibility to place the interests of Liberia above personal and partisan considerations, emphasizing that leadership should focus on improving the lives of citizens rather than attacking one another.

“But it’s also incumbent upon us leaders to focus on the country, not on each other. And so I say to you, let’s, seriously, let’s pray for President Boakai. Let’s pray for his administration.”

Cummings further encouraged the government to listen to constructive proposals from political actors and other stakeholders and implement those that can benefit the country.

“But more importantly, I encourage the government to listen to the solutions and implement it to benefit our country and our people.”

He maintained that while political leaders may disagree and criticize government policies, the ultimate goal should remain the improvement of Liberia and the well-being of its citizens.
