Ex-Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor Questioned in Ongoing Drug Investigation

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – Former Liberian Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor is reportedly under investigation in connection with Liberia’s ongoing probe into major drug trafficking cases.

Madam Taylor was reportedly stopped at Roberts International Airport while preparing to travel to Ghana, where she said she was scheduled to attend a women’s conference.

She later arrived at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police (LNP) in Monrovia at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, accompanied by her lawyer, former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh, and under heavy security escort.

Dressed in maroon-colored attire, Madam Taylor was escorted into the LNP headquarters to respond to questions from the Joint Investigative Task Force leading the investigation.

The development comes amid heightened scrutiny following two major cocaine seizures in Liberia.

Authorities recently confiscated a consignment of cocaine reportedly valued at about US$19 million at Roberts International Airport in Margibi County. Investigators said the shipment was allegedly being prepared for transportation out of Liberia.

Weeks later, another major cocaine seizure reportedly involving drugs valued at more than US$300 million was made along the Robertsfield Highway.

The authorities have not publicly detailed the specific allegations linking Madam Taylor to the investigations, and her questioning does not by itself establish wrongdoing.

The investigation remains ongoing, with further details expected as the Joint Investigative Task Force continues its probe.
