NIMBA COUNTY – Three children under the age of seven were found dead early Sunday morning in Mehnla Town, Electoral District #9, in a case that has stunned residents of the area.
The victims have been identified as Mewaseh Giah, 6, Marvelous Zainsaye, 4, and Alvina Tokpah, 4. The children, two boys and one girl, were reportedly living with their 56-year-old grandmother, Mary Giah, at the time of their deaths.
Residents awoke on Sunday, February 22, to news of the tragic discovery. Initial reports indicated that the children’s grandmother was missing, raising fear and uncertainty across Mehnla Town and surrounding communities.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) Nimba County Detachment launched an investigation and search operation shortly after the incident was reported.
Authorities later confirmed that Mary Giah had been arrested. During preliminary questioning, police say she allegedly admitted to killing the three children. Investigators have not disclosed details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The children were the offspring of Mercy Giah, daughter of the suspect. Family members and residents have described the incident as unprecedented and deeply disturbing.
Police say investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the full facts of the case. The LNP has assured the public that due process will be observed as the matter proceeds through the legal system.
The deaths have left Mehnla Town and the wider Nimba County community in mourning as residents grapple with the shocking loss.
