Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Elder Council for Peace and Reconciliation wants the Ministry of Justice to intervene into what it called institution calls rapid land dispute in Louisiana upper Montserrado County.

The elders told Liberia Excellent News Network that over the weekend that series of land disputes resulting to the use of weapon in Louisana should urgently claim the attention of the Liberia National Police.

The Council’s Chairperson, Elder Samuel O. Philip, raised concerns about what he described as “a growing wave of insecurity and lawlessness” being experienced by peaceful residents of the area.

Elder Philip disclosed that the attacks, which often involve armed robbery and land disputes, have been repeatedly linked to an individual the community can identify to help the police restore calm.

According to Elder Philip, those involved are instilling fear among citizens through intimidation and the use of firearms on most occasions.

He claimed that this group is not only involved in nighttime armed robberies but is also allegedly seizing lands that rightfully belong to other residents of Louisiana Township.

The elder noted that many victims have remained silent out of fear of retaliation.

“This is a matter of grave concern. Our people are being harassed in their own homes and communities. Lands that families have owned for generations are being forcefully taken by individuals using arms to intimidate rightful owners,” Elder Philip lamented.

The Council emphasized that the situation is deteriorating and could escalate if swift action is not taken by the relevant authorities. They stressed the need for a prompt and impartial investigation, the arrest of alleged perpetrators, and the restoration of peace and security in the affected areas.

“We are calling on the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia National Police to act now. The safety and dignity of our people must be protected. No one is above the law,” Elder Philip declared.

Residents of Louisiana Township have echoed the Council’s concerns. Some community members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that attempts to resolve the matter have failed due to the alleged influence and threats posed by the group.

The Liberia National Elder Council has pledged to continue advocating for justice and peace while calling on civil society organizations, human rights groups, and religious leaders to join them in pressuring the government to act.
