RIVER GEE COUNTY – After approximately 42 weeks of service in River Gee County, Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) County Commander Special Agent Bill M. Cooper Jr. has been reassigned to a new duty post.

According to credible sources close to the LDEA, Agent Cooper has been transferred to his native Nimba County as part of an internal administrative adjustment within the agency.

Agent Cooper took charge of the LDEA’s River Gee County Detachment in late October 2025, succeeding Special Agent Richard N. Nango, who had led the agency’s operations in the county for several years.

Prior to his assignment to River Gee, Cooper served in various capacities within the LDEA in Nimba County, including Chief of Operations, Acting Deputy County Commander and Acting County Commander.

During his tenure in River Gee, Agent Cooper supervised a number of drug-enforcement operations and played a role in several arrests and investigations, with some cases subsequently forwarded to court for prosecution.

His tenure also coincided with growing concerns over illicit drug trafficking, distribution and substance abuse across River Gee County, particularly among young people.

Reports indicate that Cooper is expected to formally hand over to the LDEA River Gee County Deputy Commander before departing for his new assignment.

The identity of his replacement has not yet been officially confirmed, although sources say a new county commander is expected to be assigned in the coming days.

The leadership transition comes as the LDEA continues efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse and other drug-related crimes across River Gee County.

The incoming commander is expected to build on existing enforcement efforts while strengthening collaboration with local authorities, community leaders, youth organizations and other security institutions to address drug-related challenges in the county.
