Liberia to Host 8th AAMA Conference on Africa’s Maritime Future

By: Perry B. Zordyu

MONROVIA – Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ambassador Robert Mocio Kpadeh, has announced that Monrovia will host the 8th Conference of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) from September 30 to October 3, 2025.

Ambassador Kpadeh said the high-level gathering will address current challenges and explore emerging opportunities within Africa’s maritime industry.

Held under the theme “Safeguarding Our Ocean, Promoting Decarbonization in Shipping, Exploring Africa’s Blue Economy Potential,” the conference will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and strategic dialogue aimed at shaping the future of Africa’s maritime sector.

The forum will also build on the resolutions of the 7th AAMA Conference and General Assembly held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 2024, with discussions expected to focus on:

  • Strengthening maritime safety and security
  • Protecting the marine environment
  • Advancing financing and governance for Africa’s blue economy
  • Enhancing the continent’s role in global trade

The event is expected to attract African ministers, maritime administrators, international partners, private sector stakeholders, and industry leaders.

AAMA, the umbrella body for maritime administrations across Africa, promotes cooperation to harmonize policies and regulations, strengthen capacity development and training, and drive efforts to unlock the vast potential of the continent’s blue economy.
