LNP Vows Action Over Viral Humiliation of Woman in Paynesville

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched a full-scale investigation and operational manhunt to identify and arrest individuals captured in a viral video allegedly involved in the unlawful assault, harassment, and degrading treatment of a woman in the Red Light commercial district of Paynesville.

In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, the LNP condemned the incident, describing it as an act of mob violence and public vigilantism that is “unlawful, degrading, and wholly inconsistent with the values of a democratic society governed by the rule of law.”

The video, which has circulated widely on social media platforms, allegedly shows a group of individuals publicly humiliating and forcibly stripping a female victim, actions the police say constitute serious violations of personal dignity, security, and fundamental human rights.

The police emphasized that such conduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy toward mob violence, gender-based abuse, public humiliation, and all forms of extrajudicial punishment.

“No individual or group has the legal authority to subject another person to violence, intimidation, or degrading treatment,” the LNP stated, warning that all perpetrators will be held accountable under Liberian law.

The institution further stressed that all allegations of wrongdoing must be addressed strictly through lawful investigative and judicial processes.

According to the LNP, individuals suspected of misconduct are entitled to due process, and any grievances should be reported to proper legal authorities rather than being resolved through mob action or public abuse.

As part of its ongoing response, the Liberia National Police confirmed that it is also taking steps to ensure the safety, dignity, and protection of the victim involved in the incident.

Authorities say efforts are underway to identify all persons linked to the assault and to ensure they are brought before the courts in accordance with the law.

The police have called on members of the public to support the investigation by providing credible information that may assist in identifying those responsible.

At the same time, citizens are urged to remain calm and avoid actions that could inflame tensions or obstruct the investigation.

The LNP also warned against the spread of unverified information and the circulation of graphic content related to the incident, noting that such actions risk further violating the dignity of the victim and undermining ongoing investigative efforts.

The investigation remains active, with law enforcement authorities indicating that operational measures are underway to track down all suspects linked to the widely condemned incident.
