Speaking during his confirmation hearing, Weedor told Senators that public trust in elections plays a critical role in maintaining peace and stability in Liberia.

“When citizens believe in the electoral process, they are more likely to support democracy and maintain peace,” he stated.

Weedor highlighted several priorities that he believes are necessary to strengthen the NEC and improve future elections.

One of his major goals is the review and reform of Liberia’s Elections Law. He said he plans to work with lawmakers and other stakeholders to ensure the law is clearer, fairer, and aligned with international standards.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining strong relationships with political parties and civil society organizations. According to him, open communication and cooperation can help reduce political tensions and build greater confidence in the work of the NEC.

Weedor further pledged to invest in training and professional development for NEC staff across the country to improve service delivery and institutional performance.

On infrastructure, the nominee called for increased support to modernize NEC facilities nationwide, noting that better working conditions and improved logistics are essential for conducting smooth and effective elections.

He emphasized the need for stronger financial accountability within the Commission and pledged to promote the responsible management of public resources.

Discussing technology, Weedor revealed plans to modernize the NEC’s ICT systems and introduce a biometric voter registration and verification process aimed at improving transparency and addressing election-related concerns.

The NEC nominee also underscored the importance of civic and voter education, particularly in communities where access to information remains limited.

“People must understand the electoral process and their role in it,” he noted, adding that voter education will remain one of the Commission’s key priorities.

Weedor assured the Senate that, if confirmed, he would lead the NEC with fairness, integrity, transparency, and accountability while remaining guided by the Constitution and the Elections Law of Liberia.

“Democracy is a shared responsibility,” he stated.

As Liberia prepares for future elections, including the next presidential and legislative polls, Weedor said Liberians are expecting elections that are well-organized, peaceful, and widely accepted by the public.

In his concluding remarks, the NEC nominee called on the Liberian Senate to support his confirmation, promising to work toward an electoral system that Liberians can trust and be proud of.
