NIMBA COUNTY – Several universities and colleges across rural Liberia have concluded an emergency meeting at the Bong County Technical College in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The gathering brought together faculty associations from Grand Gedeh, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Bong, Margibi, Nimba, Sinoe, and Grand Kru Counties, among others.
The assembly focused on evaluating ongoing engagements with the Government of Liberia and key academic stakeholders over salary and benefit disparities between rural public universities and their counterparts—the University of Liberia and William V.S. Tubman University in Maryland County.
Faculty associations from rural institutions have long been advocating for parity in salaries and benefits.
However, with no resolution in sight, they have announced plans to begin a go-slow action starting Wednesday to press their demands.
