MONROVIA – The recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Ministry of Justice Complex, presided over by the president, is facing intense scrutiny from Senator Nathaniel McGill, who has raised serious questions that could undermine confidence in the project.
While the initiative is lauded as a step forward for the justice system, McGill’s concerns paint a picture of potential mismanagement and lack of oversight.

At the forefront of McGill’s allegations is the mystery surrounding the funding for this significant project. He pointedly asks: who is financing the construction? If the government is responsible, when was the USD 20 million approved? Has a contractor been selected, and why is the groundbreaking happening without definitive budget and design approvals?
Moreover, the senator expressed worry about the possibility that the project is being funded entirely through grants or donor contributions, potentially allowing it to evade the rigorous scrutiny typically required from the legislature.
“This lack of clarity raises alarm bells, especially in light of past controversies such as the procurement of 285 yellow machines and the USD 10 million Foya project—both of which have come under fire for insufficient accountability,” he said on Facebook.
In a bold move, McGill intends to formally demand the appearance of the Minister of Justice before the Senate on February 3, 2026.
His letter will seek a comprehensive explanation of the Justice Complex project, reflecting his commitment to ensuring that “transparency and accountability must not be compromised.”
Critics argue that the current administration’s rush to inaugurate such a notable initiative without clear plans could be a concerning trend, signaling a potential disregard for proper governance.
