SUP Launches 90-Day Campus Repainting Campaign in Protest of UL Conditions

NATIONAL NEWS

Monrovia The Students Unification Party (SUP) has announced a 90-day campaign to repaint the University of Liberia’s three campuses—Capitol Hill, Fendell, and Sinje—in red, green, and black, the party’s official colors.

The move is in protest of what SUP describes as the government’s failure to address the deteriorating appearance of the country’s only state-run university.

The initiative has already begun at the Graduate School Building on the Capitol Hill campus, where SUP members started repainting earlier this week.

According to the party, the action follows repeated but unsuccessful appeals to authorities to repaint the campuses using the university’s official colors.

Speaking to reporters, SUP Chairman Sylvester Wheeler said the choice of colors is symbolic, reflecting the party’s longstanding commitment to student advocacy and institutional accountability.

He stressed that the campaign will be carried out across all three campuses within the 90-day period.

In a further escalation, SUP also announced plans to repaint the headquarters of the Liberia National Police (LNP).

The party says the move is intended to draw national attention to what it characterizes as government neglect of public institutions, particularly the University of Liberia.

Available information shows that the University of Liberia’s budget allocation recently increased from approximately US$33 million to US$40 million—an increment of about US$7 million—intended to support campus maintenance, academic operations, and infrastructure development across the three campuses.

However, students argue that despite the increased funding, visible improvements, especially in painting and basic upkeep, remain limited.
