BOMI COUNTY – Western Cluster Liberia Limited (WCL) has officially launched a comprehensive crop identification exercise targeting communities located along the corridor of its dedicated road project in Bomi County.
This initiative represents a major step in the company’s commitment to responsible mining and infrastructure development, with a focus on ensuring that affected community members are fairly compensated.
The exercise is being conducted in collaboration with local authorities, agricultural experts, and community representatives.
Its goal is to identify and assess all crops and farmland that may be impacted by the construction and expansion of the road.
Speaking at the launch, WCL’s Community Relations Manager, Mr. Victor Johnson, emphasized the company’s dedication to transparency and sustainable development.
“This exercise is part of our social responsibility to the people of Bomi County. We are ensuring that every farmer whose livelihood is affected by the road project is identified and adequately compensated,” said Mr. Johnson.
He noted that the crop identification will adhere to internationally recognized standards for resettlement and compensation, ensuring that no community member is left behind.
The road project is a key component of WCL’s broader infrastructure development plan aimed at improving transportation between its mining site in Bomi County and its port in the Dowein District.
The dedicated route is expected to facilitate the efficient transport of iron ore and reduce pressure on public roads.
As the crop identification exercise continues, WCL has reiterated its commitment to ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and assured the public that the findings will be used to develop a fair and inclusive compensation framework.
