Neewuin Town, River Cess County – Former Public Works Minister, Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, has encouraged Liberian women to remain resilient and steadfast as they navigate the challenges of business and economic independence.
Speaking on Saturday, July 19, at the second graduation ceremony of the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) in Neewuin Town, District #2, Madam Coker-Collins celebrated the achievements of over 1,000 women who successfully completed the program.
Founded in May 2023, the VSLA is a community-driven initiative designed to empower women by improving access to small-scale financial services.
The program provides women with the tools to launch, grow, and sustain their own businesses—especially in rural areas where such resources are limited.
As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Association, Madam Coker-Collins praised the graduates for their unwavering commitment to the program.
“I want to applaud you for believing in this initiative,” she said. “Your dedication to economic independence and your passion for development are what keep this dream alive.”
She emphasized that the initiative is not only about financial empowerment, but also about fostering confidence, unity, and self-reliance among women—particularly those from underserved communities.
The graduation ceremony marks a significant milestone for women across Districts 1 and 2 in River Cess County.
With their newly acquired knowledge and access to financial tools, many are now better prepared to manage and expand their businesses.
