Monrovia – Liberia is set to take center stage in Africa’s maritime sector as it prepares to host the 8th Conference of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) from September 30 to October 3, 2025, in Monrovia.

The high-level gathering, which will attract African ministers, maritime administrators, international partners, the private sector, and industry leaders, will focus on advancing solutions to the continent’s maritime challenges and unlocking new opportunities in the blue economy.

Held under the theme “Safeguarding Our Ocean, Promoting Decarbonization in Shipping, Exploring Africa’s Blue Economy Potential,” the conference will serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and strategic dialogue.

It builds on the outcomes of the 7th AAMA Conference and General Assembly held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 2024.

Discussions will center on maritime safety and security, marine environment protection, governance, financing mechanisms for the blue economy, and Africa’s growing role in global trade.

Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) Commissioner and CEO, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., described the conference as a “milestone event that will reshape Africa’s maritime future.”

“With Africa’s oceans and seas holding limitless potential, the 8th AAMA Conference will provide a platform for actionable solutions that align with global commitments while advancing Africa’s strategic growth as envisaged by the African Union Integrated Maritime Strategy 2050,” Lighe stated.

AAMA, the umbrella body for maritime administrations across Africa, plays a central role in harmonizing policies and regulations, promoting capacity development, and positioning Africa to harness its maritime resources more effectively.

Liberia, renowned for its world-class ship registry and strong maritime credentials, is expected to use the occasion to showcase its leadership in the global shipping industry and reaffirm its commitment to sustainable ocean governance.
