Gongloe Weh Reaffirms Commitment to Nimba Politics, Rules Out VP Ambitions

By: James Marking Suah

Ganta City Nimba County’s resilient female political figure, Madam Edith Gongloe Weh, has publicly ruled out any intention of seeking the Vice Presidency, reaffirming her commitment to remain an influential political voice within the county and across Liberia.

Speaking during an appreciation ceremony held at her LPM Backpass residence in Ganta on Sunday, June 22, Madam Gongloe Weh marked 14 years of political service surrounded by a cross-section of supporters, community members, and local leaders.

The event was organized by the “Friends of Edith Gongloe Weh” to honor her enduring contribution to Liberian politics.

In her passionate address, the veteran politician expressed deep gratitude to her loyal supporters for their continued backing over the years.

“Some people are already speaking as though Edith Gongloe Weh is the next Vice President. Let me correct that here and now—no one campaigns to be Vice President. It is the discretion of a presidential candidate to choose a running mate,” she stated firmly.

“I want to state clearly—Edith is nobody’s Vice President. You, the people of Nimba, are my backbone. I will continue to serve and remain a political face in this country.”

Despite her repeated but unsuccessful bids for the Nimba County Senatorial seat—including her latest attempt in the 2025 special senatorial by-election—Madam Gongloe Weh emphasized her unwavering dedication to political activism and the democratic process.

The well-attended ceremony brought together members of the Muslim community, youth organizations, media representatives, and various stakeholders from across Nimba County, all of whom praised her persistence and commitment to grassroots politics.

Madam Gongloe Weh’s remarks reinforce her refusal to be sidelined in Liberia’s evolving political landscape and her determination to continue championing the voice of Nimba’s citizens.
