The President of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA), Mr. Abraham Samukai, will lead a two-member delegation to the FIBA Mid-Term Congress 2025, scheduled for May 14–18 in Bahrain. The Congress will convene representatives from all 212 of FIBA’s National Member Federations.

This will be the first time Bahrain hosts the prestigious global event, made possible through collaboration with the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Basketball Association.

Joining Mr. Samukai on the Liberian delegation is Mr. Calvin Diggs, Secretary General of the LBA. Mr. Diggs departed Liberia late last week, while Mr. Samukai is expected to travel on Wednesday, May 14.

The Congress will provide updates on FIBA’s global initiatives and progress since its last meeting in Manila, Philippines, in 2023. Among the key topics are the implementation of the FIBA Plus programs, which benefited 112 National Federations in 2024.

Delegates will also review FIBA’s strategic priorities, including efforts to strengthen National Federations and enhance women’s participation in basketball. Programs such as Her World, Her Rules will be highlighted for their role in promoting gender equity within the sport.

Additionally, the Congress will consider proposed amendments to the FIBA General Statutes, review submissions from the Central Board and member federations, and address matters such as membership suspensions, expulsions, and the awarding of honorary titles, including Honorary President and Secretary General Emeritus.

A segment of the Congress will focus on initiatives led by the FIBA Foundation’s Basketball For Good project, which uses the sport as a tool for social development. The Foundation’s Board will convene during the event to review ongoing and upcoming programs.

A major highlight of the Congress will be the FIBA Hall of Fame induction ceremony on May 17. The Class of 2025 includes Spanish basketball legend Pau Gasol, American star Dawn Staley, and iconic coach Mike Krzyzewski—each honored for their significant contributions to the global growth of basketball.

The FIBA Mid-Term Congress 2025 serves as a key forum for shaping FIBA’s global strategy, enhancing governance, and recognizing those who have profoundly impacted the sport.
