The ongoing operation, which forms part of LMHRA’s regional enforcement activities in Region-2, is aimed at dismantling illegal networks involved in the distribution and sale of counterfeit, adulterated, and substandard medical products that pose serious risks to public health.

Led by Region-2 Manager Dr. Andrew Keagon, LMHRA enforcement teams conducted a series of inspections and targeted raids in Bong County, where the illegal products were discovered and confiscated. The seized medicines are expected to be transported to the Authority’s headquarters in Monrovia for further investigation and eventual destruction.

Dr. Keagon emphasized that the operation underscores LMHRA’s firm commitment to protecting the Liberian population from dangerous pharmaceutical products circulating in local markets.

“The health and safety of the Liberian people remain our highest priority. We will continue to identify, seize, and remove falsified and substandard products wherever they are found. There is no place in Liberia’s healthcare system for dangerous medicines,” he stated.

According to the Authority, the enforcement action is part of broader efforts to ensure compliance with national pharmaceutical regulations and to protect consumers from medicines that can lead to treatment failure, severe illness, antimicrobial resistance, and preventable deaths.

LMHRA further disclosed that following the Bong County operation, enforcement activities will be extended to Nimba County as part of a sustained regional strategy to disrupt illegal medicine supply chains and strengthen regulatory oversight across Liberia.

The intervention has been welcomed by members of the public and local stakeholders, who described it as a critical step toward improving access to safe, quality-assured medicines—particularly in rural communities where regulatory enforcement challenges remain significant.

The Authority is calling on citizens, healthcare workers, and business operators to support its efforts by reporting suspicious pharmaceutical products and ensuring that medicines are purchased only from licensed and authorized sources.

LMHRA reaffirmed its commitment to sustained surveillance, enforcement, and public awareness campaigns, stressing that it remains determined to safeguard public health and ensure that all Liberians have access to safe, effective, and quality medicines.
